The California State University Planning and Evaluation Taskforce for Learning Platforms and Services (CSULPS) engages provosts, faculty, students, CIOs, Directors of Academic Technology, faculty development directors, academic technology support staff and others across the 23 campuses in order to facilitate a strategic review of Learning Management System (LMS) needs across the entire CSU system. The LPS Taskforce is charged with reviewing both the current and future state of the LMS and the growing ecosystem of learning platforms and services as it pertains to the strategic and varied needs of CSU campuses. The CSU recognizes the strategic importance of the LMS as an enterprise system that supports both face-to-face and online education, leverages technology in order to transform the curriculum, and meets the needs of the 21st Century students.
The purpose of the LPS Taskforce is to:
- Review the state of learning management systems and services, inside and outside the CSU, using the recent ATSC report on LMS usage in the CSU, and develop a strategic framework for the CSU to best address its future LMS needs and achieve our desired student learning outcomes.
- Develop and execute an RFP for a Master Enabling Agreement for LPS options.
- Develop and execute a plan for managing the current contracts in ways that will enable the successful transitions to new contracts, including the facilitation of the extension of current system-wide contracts to facilitate campus transitions.
This strategic project shows the foresight of CSU campus leaders and demonstrates the Chancellor’s Office’s strong interest in fostering partnerships that serve our students with technology that is effective, accessible, mobile and collaborative. Moreover, it supports prudent financial stewardship of our system and its campuses. CSULPS will provide helpful information and coordinate expertise already in the CSU system as individual campuses select a particular LMS that best reflects their needs.
