Get to know a CSU LMS: CSUN

Deone Zell, Ph.D. is Associate Vice President of Academic Technology at California State University Northridge. She is responsible for all academic technology including the LMS and other initiatives such as course redesign, eTexts, mobile learning and ePortfolios. CSUN has about 76% of faculty using their LMS, Moodle. Deone says that students like the ability to access information and turn in assignments anywhere, and that increasing numbers of faculty and staff want to access the LMS from their mobile devices.

Where do you think the LMS will be in the next 3 to 5 years?
Less walled off, more social network-y and integrated with all other solutions. Also, integrated with mentoring, advising and employers, to create a movement toward Learning Relationship Management. Hopefully more supporting of competency-based education, less dependent on the credit hour. Finally, an LMS needs to be fluid, quick, intuitive and streamlined — a JOY to use, like some of the new cloud-based solutions.
