Educause Review: What’s Next for the LMS?

Malcolm Brown, Joanne Dehoney, and Nancy Millichap wrote an excellent article for Educause Review titled, “What’s Next for the LMS?” Among many great observations, they promote a few key points. Primarily, they promote adopting the term next generation digital learning environment (NGDLE) to represent the all encompassing nature of learning ecosystems in educational practice. Writing about NGDLEs, they promote “five functional domains” of core functionality for the future:

  1. Interoperability and Integration
  2. Personalization
  3. Analytics, Advising, and Learning Assessment
  4. Collaboration
  5. Accessibility and Universal Design
